Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the Senior Estimator is to assist other estimators, help lead the estimating team, assist in training of the estimating staff, maintaining subcontractor relationships, successful project procurement efforts.

This is a full-time position with working hours 7am-4pm M-F.

Essential Functions

The duties of this position include the following: these duties may be modified and other duties may be assigned to meet the needs of the business:

  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in responsibilities for pricing and bid specifications. Decisions can bind company into contractual agreements.

  • Quantify systems on all aspects of specifications, for the purpose of conducting value engineering on costs and product options. Prepare timely and accurate estimates [quantify take-offs, pricing structure] on projects (tenant improvement, commercial, communities and residential).

  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare timeframes, costs, materials, and labor estimates.

  • Establish pricing and conduct feasibility comparisons on changes and comparisons to cost estimates.

  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to costs estimates.

  • Consult with clients, vendors, and internal project team members to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with building partners (i.e., subcontractors, architects, etc.)

  • Develop bid strategies.

  • Maintain subcontractor relationships.

  • Analyzing what went wrong on previous jobs that caused them to go over time and materials costs than what was originally projected in our bids.

  • Determine proper soft cost for the project.

  • Evaluate schedule, workload, weather, manpower availability and their impact on potential projects being estimated.

  • Assist Project Manager & estimators in abstracting subcontractor bids.

  • Follow up subcontractor request for bid results.

  • Work to build repeat business with owner, tenants, general contractors, sub contractors, venders and factory reps.

  • Maintain open, daily communication with estimating Staff.

  • Provides a support role for Estimators & Project Managers during the preconstruction services, including attending design meetings, conceptual design construction strategies

  • Guard our reputation with Owners, Developers, Architects and Subcontractor’s.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in estimating construction projects.

  • Ability and personality to interface with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors and WCI personnel.

  • Skilled at reading and understanding blueprints and specifications.

  • Effectively perform work tasks utilizing MS Word, MS Excel and estimating software programs.

  • Maintain a positive attitude.

  • Ability to generate complete estimates from conceptual designs.

  • Represents WCI as a successful leader in the construction industry.

  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

  • Creativity and latitude is required.

  • Relies on judgment and experience to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Ability to motivate subcontractors to participate in the bidding process

  • Fosters an enthusiastic, creative “can do” attitude.

  • Maintain an ethical conduct. Understanding of Wespac’s Code of Ethics, and implementation into daily activities.

  • Duties require good judgment, initiative, and ability to deal with last-minute changes or critical issues.

  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities. Detail oriented.

  • Ability to work and interact with all company departments and external business contacts.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Enjoys dealing with people. Able to work in team environment.

  • Solid proficiency in all Microsoft Office Products, especially Excel, knowledge of computer applications is helpful.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree not required but preferred.

  • Five (5) years or more working at Wespac Construction.

  • Five (5) years of bidding and estimating experience required.

  • Field construction experience required.
